Classic Virginia Ham
CLASSIC VIRGINIA HAM BRINGS EVERYONE TOGETHER. For family holidays or Sunday dinner, this ham recipe is super simple and will have everyone at your table asking for seconds. Serve this ham with all the fixings, and enjoy the special moments as everyone gathers around the table.
SERVES: 8-10
1 (6–8 pound) smoked ham
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
½ teaspoon ground mustard
12–15 whole cloves
1 Heat oven to 325°F. Place ham, fat-side up, in copper pan. Tent with foil and bake until ham reaches an internal temperature of 135°F, about 15 minutes per pound.
2 In small bowl, stir together brown sugar, vinegar, and mustard. About 15 minutes before ham is done, remove from oven. Cut diagonal lines in ham in both directions to make a checkerboard pattern and insert cloves into surface of ham where lines intersect. Brush brown sugar mixture onto surface of ham. Bake uncovered until cooked through.
3 Remove ham from copper pan and let stand, covered, about 10 minutes before serving.
